Peace Worldwide has in the last decade placed special emphasis on providing affordable quality education to the needy. After all, an educated populace can withstand any external and/or internal pressures and bring about socio-economic prosperity. Decades of bureaucratic mismanagement, religious intolerance, denial of basic education & healthcare, ignorance, superficial supremacy, and stubbornness have decimated our self-esteem. Our recent foray into advocacy work covering sensitive issues, including human rights abuses, has given me much satisfaction. From rape cases to blasphemy cases, our effort has been directed to providing adequate legal and moral support to those in need. We have had to encounter many obstacles, both from the bureaucracy as well as die-hard religious fanatics, but remain steadfast in our resolve to alleviate the suffering of the victims.

Leading politicians have emphasized the need for interfaith harmony – how this can be achieved is anyone’s guess. Without patriotism, no society can achieve socio-economic progress. Abiding by the rule of law requires the participation of the government as well as the people. Simply enacting stringent laws will not translate into better governance; implementation at every level is just as vital. Hypocrisy, moral and religious discrimination, disparity in wealth distribution, law & order breakdown, and commercial monopoly must end before we see any real benefits of socio-economic prosperity.
